I made it to Lower and Upper East Side galleries last week, so picking a favorite this morning is particularly difficult! However, Channing Hansen's knitted pieces at CRG Gallery really blew me away. Not only are these pieces gorgeous -- and I'm impressed that they seem to draw on a 1970s fiber art tradition without looking at all dated -- but the artist's process is interesting, as well. First, he undertakes producing the wool from sheep to skein. Second, although the imagery appears abstract, the patterning is actually defined by an algorithm created by the artist based on his own DNA. How cool!
