I have been so haunted by the Bernard Buffet show at Venus Over Manhattan on view through the end of this month. It's the first major presentation of his work in New York in thirty years, and I wasn't super familiar with him before I saw the exhibition. At points during his lifetime (1928 - 1999), however, Buffet was a major star, and there has been recent renewed interest in his work. I love his creepy, uncanny imagery and thick, thick paint. These are captivating pieces that demand a long look!
