Every Monday, I share my favorite piece I saw the previous week. This week: I adore Andrew Kuo’s work visually – bright, bold color blocking in combinations that feel current, but it’s when you turn your attention to the lower portions of the canvas that these paintings really do it for me. A white strip on the bottom of the paintings provides a legend, defining each color, but these aren’t conference-room pie charts. With blue indicating, “Everyone knows everyone’s making it up” and yellow, “Conversations that don’t end on a high note torture me forever,” these keys can only be to the non-logical world of the artist’s mind. Unfortunately, this show closed on Saturday, but if you’re interested in a back room viewing of this work, please let me know!
